Partnering with companies like Baidu Apollo Go and WeRide, the emirate has begun operating pilot services in areas like Jumeirah and Umm Suqeim, with plans to expand to over 65 locations and over 1,000 vehicles in the coming years. Key Details on Dubai Robotaxi Services:
Partnerships & Launch: The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has partnered with WeRide for pilot rides available via the Uber app (currently with a safety driver). Baidu Apollo Go was granted the first permit for fully driverless trials in 2025, with commercial, driverless, service, and the introduction of the RT6 vehicles, anticipated in early 2026.
Operational Areas: The initial rollout includes 65 locations across two main zones, focusing on high-traffic areas such as Jumeirah 1, 2, 3, Umm Suqeim, and Al Safa.
Safety & Technology: The vehicles, including the Baidu Apollo RT6, are equipped with advanced sensors and AI to navigate, with a focus on safety and reducing traffic accidents.
Future Goals: The strategy includes a broader commercial launch in 2026, aimed at improving traffic efficiency and offering 24/7, app-based on-demand, transportation.
