Dubai Police Issue Urgent Warning After Wrong-Way E-Scooter Crash

Dubai Police have issued a stern warning regarding the life-threatening risks of driving against the flow of traffic. The alert follows a severe accident in the Naif area, where an e-scooter rider sustained critical injuries after colliding head-on with a vehicle while traveling the wrong way on an internal street.

Brigadier Juma Salem Bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic, emphasized that whether operating a car, motorcycle, or e-scooter, ignoring lane directions is a primary cause of fatal road incidents.

The Incident in Naif

  • The Cause: An e-scooter rider was traveling against traffic, leading to a direct, high-impact collision with an oncoming car.

  • The Outcome: The rider suffered serious injuries and was rushed to the hospital by emergency teams after the Command and Control Centre dispatched patrols and ambulances to the scene.

Why Wrong-Way Driving is a "Fatal Threat"

Authorities highlighted several critical dangers associated with this violation:

  • High Fatality Rate: Head-on collisions significantly increase the likelihood of death.

  • Public Risk: It endangers not only the driver but also pedestrians and other motorists.

  • Economic & Human Toll: The practice leads to massive property damage and avoidable loss of life.

  • Logistical Chaos: Such incidents cause major disruptions to the city's traffic flow.

Enforcement and Awareness

Brigadier Bin Suwaidan urged all road users to respect designated lanes and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to ensure collective safety. He confirmed that Dubai Police will:

  1. Strictly Enforce the Law: Take firm legal action against any individuals found driving in the wrong direction.

  2. Educate the Public: Continue targeted awareness campaigns to eliminate dangerous road behaviors.

  3. Enhance Security: Prioritize road safety as a pillar of community well-being.

"Such dangerous behavior could lead to dire consequences for drivers and other road users in terms of both lives and property," Bin Suwaidan warned.
